An excuse to brush up on my Italian

I got a very nice surprise when I collected the post this morning... a package from Italy, with a copy of Fotografia Reflex inside. In Arles last year, at the Voies Off portfolio reviews, I met Claudio Marcozzi, who really liked my Brixton People project, and said he'd like to include it in this magazine. And, almost a year later... here is his feature! 8 pages, 14 images, and (from what I can understand) a very comprehensive text outlining the history of Brixton, describing the market, and a complimentary view of my photographs. So thank you Claudio!

The magazine is kind of the Italian equivalent of Practical Photographer, with reviews of cameras and software, and a showcase of different genres of photography including nature and the like. There is also an article on the Polaroid collection... so it's a mixture of all sorts, and i suspect it's targeted at the keen amateur. But I'm pleased to be included; my name is even on the front cover!

Image of the week #3

A year ago today I began a long but fun week of photographing the people of Brixton. In five days, I photographed 200 people, 70 of which I am putting into a book. Unfortunately the book isn't ready for the first anniversary, so instead here is one of my fave portraits from that week...

The complete gallery of images can be seen here. And follow this blog to find out when the book is published!

Brixton People @ Brixton Splash

Yesterday I was invited to set up my pop-up studio at the Brixton Splash, a festival celebrating the cultural diversity of the area. And so I did... slightly different to Brixton People, as I was outside, so I adjusted my lighting and crop accordingly. But the people of Brixton still love to be photographed, and boy do they have style!
More to come... and many thanks to my beautiful assistants Hydar and Maja...

My name in lights

Preparation for Brixton People is fast underway... last night I spent the evening painting polyboards black to use as killspills, have managed to find assistants to help out, email invite out, facebook event up, flyers made....

and the project is in the South London Press!

So I'm getting very excited... please do come down and say hi, have your picture taken and partake in the delights of the newly revamped Brixton Village. I'll be there from Tuesday to Saturday, 11 - 5pm.
