Printing 60 Year Old Negs

When clearing out the house of their late mother almost 2 years ago, my half brothers' found some old 6x6 black and white negatives, still in their Kodak envelope. They gave them to me to contact, and we discovered they belonged to Dad; a record of his time as a Doctor in Malaya (as it was known then), just after the war. Dad was born in 1927 (he is still fighting fit!), and was excused military service during World War II as he was studying medicine at Guys in London. Instead, he was stationed in Malaya shortly after the war had finished. These negs have been in my possession now for 2 years, and I have only just got round to printing them. They have been well kept, but have the scratches and marks which one would expect after over 60 years. Even so, they printed remarkably well. Here is a selection - Dad is the tall skinny character. There are plenty more where they came from so watch this space!

Studio

Thanks to those of you who made it to see Earthly Treasures at the London Independent Photography exhibition. There is a book to accompany the show, which can be bought here.

The month of October has been a busy one for me... I am plotting a couple of projects, details of which I will post on here when they are more concrete. The major thing is that I now have a studio to work in. I am sharing with a photographer and friend Millie Burton (www.millieburton.com). Watch this space for updates!

The Beginning

I am excited to announce that my new work, Earthly Treasures has been selected for the London Independent Photographer's 20th Annual Exhibition. The exhibition will be held at Cotton's Atrium, Tooley Street (nearest tube London Bridge) from 19th October - 2nd November. A map can be found here: www.london-se1.co.uk/places/cottons-atrium/map. There is no private view as such but do let me know if you go and what you think of the project - it feels so good to be doing something new once again and I want as much feedback as possible!
